Tina's Ride
The Bendigo Breast Cancer Support Group has received $2683, raised during a bike ride from Bendigo to Narromine. The ride was the idea of Graeme Pilcher, who got together with a group of mates to raise money for his niece, Tina, who was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in August last year. He was visiting the former Bendigo woman in Narromine when the idea was born. “I went up there and did some work on the house and coming back I said to some mates we might ride up there,” he said.“It just sort of snowballed from there.”From a small group the committee grew to 25, including 19 who made the 845-kilometre ride in three-and-a-half days. The ride was used to raise money for the Bendigo and Narromine breast cancer support groups, the McGrath Foundation and for reconstructive surgery for Mr Pilcher’s niece.“It was fantastic,” he said. “The Jane McGrath Foundation would like us to do it every year.“There were close to 200 businesses and individuals who supported us and we were able to raise a bit over $39,000 to distribute.”
